For her first solo exhibition in Asia, Anna Lea Hucht presents recent works alongside selected earlier pieces at Meyer Riegger Wolff. Watercolours and ceramics are joined by elements conceived specifically for the exhibition, extending a practice in which objects, bodies, plants and animals occupy an unstable continuum between the animate and the apparently inert.
Hucht’s work is grounded in an attentiveness to the life of things. Domestic objects absorb corporeal, vegetal or animal qualities, while features of the human body migrate into sculptural and pictorial forms. A ceramic may evoke a head, an eye or a bodily presence without resolving into any one of them. Resemblance remains active, with one form continually approaching another without becoming identical to it. These shifting associations invite sustained looking, as familiar forms reveal qualities that complicate their initial appearance.
