DEPENDING SHADOWS, Ulla von Brandenburg
Entre Deux Portes - Rue de Namur 64, Bruxelles, Belgium
Ulla von Brandenburg’s work is characterized by the diversity of media and mediums (installations, films, watercolors, murals, collages, performances…) that respond to each other and that she stages according to the exhibition spaces. Perfectly mastering the codes of scenography, nourished by literature, history of art and architecture but also by psychoanalysis, spiritualism and magic, she borrows as much from esoteric rituals and popular ceremonies as from the mechanisms and codes of theatre to explore the construction of our social structures. Masks, costumes, sets and accessories from different popular traditions allow him to symbolically transgress norms and hierarchies by subtly mixing reality and appearances in theatrical stagings.
