Kunstverein Göppingen will be showing works by German artist Anna Lea Hucht in its annual exhibition, Furry Flowers, at the Kunsthalle Göppingen.

Anna Lea Hucht’s works mostly depict interiors, everyday objects, people, animals, and plants. The scenes portrayed are never pure representations of reality and do not tell clear-cut stories, but rather open up transitions between subject and object through surreal details and subtle shifts. Everything seems to be animated, and the viewer is confronted with this.

Hucht’s approach is meticulous and rich in detail. The depictions of interiors are often from an elevated perspective, creating distance and at the same time forming a dreamlike atmosphere in which one can linger for a long time. In the black-and-white watercolours, everyday objects take on a quiet presence.

A similar process can be observed in the ceramics. While earlier clay objects establish a direct connection to the figurative elements of Hucht’s drawings and suggest that the depicted objects are entering the third dimension, the newer organic and abstract forms of the sculptures open up an even more emotional approach. The boundaries between animate and inanimate, reality and imagination merge into a new dimension, reminiscent of the Surrealists with their automatic writing in the early 1920s.

Drawings, watercolours, and sculptures enter into a silent dialogue in the exhibition space. Visitors encounter Anna Lea Hucht’s poetic, magical, and independent visual language, in which living beings and objects can be intimate and vivid carriers of memory.
