Silke Schatz

Much of Silke Schatz’s work is based on memories. Through those her fine lined isometric drawings visualize architectural structures. She translates layouts into large-scale installations and colorful sculptures. Sequencing text and images in conjunction with her exhibitions, Schatz is concerned both with memories that one experiences and those one inherits. She deals with political and societal topics, inherently interlacing her own experiences into precise but unstable representation of recollections.

Biography

Silke Schatz (born in 1967 in Celle) lives and works in Cologne.
Selected solo shows took place at Kunsthalle Lingen (2016), Wilkinson Gallery (2016-2006), Neuer Kunstverein Wuppertal (2013), Kunstmuseum Mühlheim an der Ruhr (2012), Le Plateau (Paris, 2006), Kunstverein Braunschweig (1999) and Brent Sikkema (New York, 1999).

She participated in group exhibitions such as at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin, 2020), Kunsthalle Baden-Baden (2018), Bundeskunsthalle Bonn (2017), Kunstmuseum St. Gallen (2013), Staatsgalerie Stuttgart (2010), Museum für angewandte Kunst (Vienna, 2008), Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum (St. Louis, 2007), Centro Cultural Tijuana Mexico City, 2005), Galeria Fortes Vilaca (São Paulo, 2003), Apexart New York (2002) and ICA London (1998).

The artist has been awarded multiple awards such as NRW Stipendium, Niedersächsischer Förderkunstpreis, Stipendium Villa Massimo, Förderpreis des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, Hap-Grieshaber-Preis, DAAD grant and Schlaglicht Kunstpreis.
