Korpys / Löffler

In their artistic-documentary projects the duo Korpys/Löffler (Andree Korpys and Markus Löffler) use the methods of the modern surveillance state and reflect it back onto the state itself, focusing on its mechanisms and structures of power represented by institutions like the UN, the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, the BND (Federal Intelligence Service), the European Central Bank, prisons, or the police. Despite these highly charged subject matters, their films remain non-judgmental and objective and don’t engage in investigative journalism. Instead, the aesthetics of peripheral events, secondary characters, and details are their focus of attention.

Biography

Korpys/Löffler (born in Bremen, 1966 and 1963) live and work in Bremen and Berlin.
Significant solo exhibitions have taken place at West Museumkwartier (The Hague, 2019), Kunsthalle Tübingen (2017), Künstlerhaus Bremen (with Dieter Schmal, 2012), Wiener Secession (2007), Gallery Q (Tokyo, 2005), Kunsthalle Nürnberg (2000) and Kunstverein Bremerhaven (1995).

The artist duo took part in many group exhibitions such as Kallmann-Museum (2021), Kunsthalle Bremen (2020), Goethe Pop Up (Minneapolis, 2018), Museum für Angewandte Kunst (Frankfurt/Main, 2016), Fondazione Prada (2016), ZKM Karlsruhe (various years), Museu d’art contemporani de Barcelona (2009), Centre for Contemporary Art (Warsaw, 2008), Oberösterreichisches Landesmuseum (Linz 2003), Schirn Kunsthalle (2000) and Centre genevois de gravure contemporain (Genf, 1999). Their works were also shown at biennales and festivals in Berlin (2010), Trient (2008), Halle (2006), Genf (2000).

Korpys/Löffler were awarded grants from Akademie Villa Massimo, Kunstfonds Bonn, Ars Viva, Akademie Schloß Solitude and the City of Bremen. Next to their presence in private collections, their works form part of the collections of Neues Museum Nürnberg, Hamburger Kunsthalle, Deutsche Bank and Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
