Daniel Roth

Daniel Roth combines mysterious objects to produce narrative installations. Single objects such as drawings, sculptures or photographies appear as set pieces from fictitious events that refer to one another and constantly generate new, interwoven narratives. Influenced by sagas and myths that twine around rocks, caves, or mountains in real and imagined landscapes - Daniel Roth’s installations come with a contradictory field of tension between an external perceptive world and a behind and underneath lying fiction. Like a novelist Daniel Roth creates stories - without beginning and ending.

Biography

Daniel Roth (born in 1969 in Schramberg) lives and works in Karlsruhe and Forenbühl.
Some of his solo exhibitions took place at Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe (2021), JOLLY JOKER (Amsterdam, 2016), Universalmuseum (Graz, 2014), MAMCO (Geneca, 2010), Maccarone Inc (New York, 2009), Hiromi Yoshi (Tokyo, 2006), Dallas Museum of Art (2005), Museum der Bildenden Künste (Leipzig, 2003), Inside the White Cube (London, 2003) and Kunsthaus Glarus (2000).

Daniel Roth’s works were shown in group shows such as Simultanhalle (Cologne, 2017), Kunsthalle Karlsruhe (2015), Aargauer Kunsthaus (2014), Ludwig Museum Budapest (2010), Musée d’art contemporain (Bordeaux, 2007), Goethe-Institut Tokyo (2005), Kunsthalle Basel (2002) and Musée de la ville de Paris (2000). He additionally took part in Biennials in San Sebastian (2004), Berlin (2001) and Montréal (2000).

The artist has been granted awards from Deutsche Akademie Rom Villa Massimo, Claus Hüppe Stiftung, LVZ Leipzig, Ars Viva Bonn, Kunstfonds Bonn and Akademie Schloß Solitude.
